Eight Sentence Sunday #14

I present to you Eight Sentence Sunday, a blog hop hosted by Weekend Writing Warriors. I've been trying my hand at free writing lately, and this is my favorite piece from this week.

Battling against a mermaid is not as straight forward as one might think. The first and foremost issue is that they live in the water and it's easy for them to retreat back into the water whenever their heart fancies. Yet that is not the only problem, not at all. They often go on land and can be surrounded there.

No the main problem is the fact that puts men to sleep. We don't know how, which makes it that much worse. It cannot be avoided. Therefore this terror of the sea, mermaids who hunt whales and are successful at it. Those who hunt our own ships so that they might take our tableware's as treasures, they must be fought by women.

A most logical conclusion. Nice set up, Shannon.

Interesting and a bit unsettling. As soon as you mention tableware you conjure up Disney's Ariel who is totally unlike what you're describing, which kinda undoes the effect IMHO.

Wow that's interesting how only women can fight them. But I always wondered if mermaids are so magical and amazing, why can't they just sprout a pair of legs when going on land?

Yup, sounds like a challenge... and a fun read!

This is the second mermaid snippet I've read today. Mermaids must be 'in the air', so to speak. The Next Big Thing?

Some interesting thoughts in here--makes me wonder how mermaids get on land. I'm not sure why they'd want tableware, as opposed to gems, or even food.
Sounds like your free writing stirred up something cool!

Interesting last sentence. My question then is why? Good snippet.

Very interesting snippet. I also wonder why mermaids would want 'tablewares' as treasure - and why do they hunt whales? A lot of mystery and intrigue here which I think could be developed into an intriguing paranormal tale!

I did not see that last line coming! Nice!
