Eight Sentence Sunday #9

I present to you Eight Sentence Sunday, a blog hop hosted by Weekend Writing Warriors. Changing it up a little bit. This week I have a bit I wrote for a writing exercise a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure if it'll grow into a full story, we'll see!

The cold air burned her face. She shouldn't have agreed to this freezing ordeal.

Sophie stands up and jogs in place in front of the door of the great wall. Wishing for a fire is a waste of time, but there is nothing else to do. There is no way to stay positive in this wretched cold.

Guidelines say that she has to stay out here for a week, just as the hero did in the chronicles. But she is no hero and she knows it. Why should she, a normal person, be expected to perform a hero's act? Stay in the winter cold without a fire or even anything to do. Waiting.

Let's hope she isn't forced to stay in the cold for an entire week.

Very interesting. This makes the reader yearn for more action.

Fascinating snippet, really raises good questions on all kinds of issues about why this person is there and what's going to happen next, and makes me want to keep reading.

Lovely snippet. The two sentences are in a different tense than the rest. Not positive if that was intentional. I can see it for the second, but less for the first.

There is nothing worse than being stuck doing something you really don't want to do for no good reason. I should know. I made this mistake too many times to count. Nice snippet.

A whole week? I hope she doesn't have to.

Great excerpt and I can really see the potential for a good story in this - I agree about the change of tense though, threw me a bit.

Exercise for next weekend? Shannon Yseult will finish this story (or Shan Jeniah might hog the coffeepot)...

Okay, I'd never do that (on purpose) - but still, the consensus says this story wants to be finished, and I agree. Why is Sophie here? Is there any way she can survive? What's so great about this wall (and who paid for it?)

Inquiring minds want to know!
